Eosta saves 500.000 plastic containers for organic blueberries
In the upcoming season, Eosta / Nature & More will replace at least 500,000 plastic containers of blueberries with cardboard boxes. The new packaging has been developed in cooperation with a large customer and still has a small window made of bioplastic. Eosta has also developed completely plastic-free options. Together with retailers throughout Europe, Eosta hopes to save millions of plastic boxes for blueberries in the coming years.
According to Gerben Borsje, Masterdata Manager and packaging expert at Eosta, the new packaging saves at least 80% plastic. Moreover, bioplastic is now used instead of standard plastic. In addition to sustainability, issues such as shelf life, visibility, price and distinction from regular products all influence the packaging that a supermarket ultimately chooses. Eosta expects that in the coming years more customers will opt for plastic-free and low plastic packaging.
